Retreat Yearbook
2025 - Raleigh, NC
Raleigh was a dream come true!
Our time on the east coast included movie nights, a day of writing joined by local authors, a workshop led by author Taylor Hartley, a trip to an indie bookstore on its opening day, and SO MUCH WRITING.
We estimated roughly 80,000 words were written over the course of the weekend. We estimate roughly 80,000 laughs were also laughed, and we don’t need to talk about how much caffeine was consumed or how many Diet Cokes were enjoyed.

2024 - Joshua Tree, CA
In 2024, the desert called, and we answered.
We got to spend five lovely days in Joshua Tree, CA. The days were roasting. The nights were chilly. We stayed up late to stargaze, and we woke up early to beautiful sunrises. We hiked in the desert and quoted movie lines. We wrote like our lives depended on it.
It was magic. It was silly. It was crazy productive. Guess that’s what happens when you spend time with amazing writers who inspire you to keep going.

2023 - Mt. Hood, OR
Our very first retreat was an event we will never forget. The walls of green outside our windows, epic waterfalls, and pitter patter of fall rain kept us company all week.
The inaugural event also kicked off our very high standards for shared meals, delicious snacks, and well-stocked coffee bars. We had an in-person poetry workshop with Lisa Karsen, a local poet, and a virtual workshop about story structure with Rachel, owner of The Wallflower Editing.
We hiked, we dined, we wrote. We watched movies, cuddled under blankets, and wrote. We told stories, made best friends, and wrote.
This was the event where Caitlan and Julia looked at each other after and made up their minds — THIS is what we want to do. THIS is where the magic is.
